Our Specialized Programs & Services

Education is not a one-size-fits-all approach. We know every student learns at a different pace and absorbs material and concepts in a variety of learning environments. Our Specialized Services Program provide students with the support and resources they need to reach their full potential both academically and individually.

We strongly value a child’s inclusion in a classroom learning and growing alongside their classmates. Our unique approach to specialized services ensures that each student participating in our program spends as much time as possible in their classrooms.

Responsive Teaching & Learning (K to Gr. 6)

Responsive teaching is a specialized approach designed to provide support and assistance through strategies that, based on research, grows a student’s capability to complete tasks independently and with confidence. It’s the creation of an individualized learning environment that responds to the specific needs of each student and fosters their growth by inspiring them to become self-directed learners.

Itinerant Resource Teachers (IRT)

Our IRT staff lends individualized, instructional support to students with particular needs and requirements to improve their achievement as it relates to their learning, development, and growth. They provide direct services and supports in one-on-one personal settings as well as real-time in-class support through our Responsive Teaching and Learning Program.

Speech Language Pathology

Each year we contract a Speech Language Pathologist to support our students who require speech language provisions. Our visiting practitioner provides assessment and treatment services to any student who is referred for this service. They can provide treatment plans for teachers and specialized staff to be applied as part of the student’s everyday learning and development. They also provide home programming for parents and guardians.

The SLP visits five times a year for a one week duration.

Our Sensory Room

Sensory rooms are calming, tranquil spaces where students can take respite from an environment or activity that is over stimulating to them. Spending time in this specially designed room helps to reduce a student’s anxiety and stress caused by sensory overload. Our Sensory Room is equipped with a variety of tactile, visual, and auditory toys and equipment to help a student regain focus so they can comfortably and confidently resume activity.
