The Music Arts

Our Primary and Elementary music curriculum is based on the Foundation for the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Education Curriculum which provides the framework for music education and reflects current research theories and classroom practice. Our music program offer students an exposure to a broad range of band instruments, free of charge, that includes brass, woodwind, percussion, and orff.

Primary (K to Gr. 3)

Our primary students are provided meaningful experiences aimed toward developing an enjoyment, understanding, and sensitivity to music. It is a learner based, flexible program where teaching matches the child’s natural learning process.

Elementary (Gr. 4 to 6)

Our elementary program continues providing students with musical experiences that further develop each child’s instinctive musical ability. We build on the skills and knowledge acquired in primary grades through hearing, singing, playing, moving, deriving, writing, and creating.

High School (Gr. 7 to 12)

Our Junior & Senior High students are provided opportunities where they engage in meaningful learning through performing, listening and creating music that represents a variety of styles, genres, mediums and practices. Students engage in musical expression and creation through composition and performance.

Here’s a sample of how our students experience our music program.

Musical instrument performances, Theatrical performances (dramatic and musical), Choirs, Digital music creation, full theatre access where students can experience and learn about stage lighting and sound systems.
